South Park Spanks Scientology. So Sue Me.

"If you really want to enslave people, tell them that you're going to give them total freedom."

-- L. Ron Hubbard

Last night aired one of the best South Park episodes I have ever seen, and I've just about seen them all. South Park finally went after Scientology, and showed it for the scam it is.

I believe everyone should be free to choose whatever cult their heart desires, but people should also be free to criticize it when it is shown for the farce it is. Scientologist do not believe that is so. They have a history of trying to sue anyone that would tell everyone what a sham they are. Currently they have a law suit against Time magazine pending for 100's of millions of dollars, as well as many smaller cases. What do they not want you to know, other than they send their followers to the poor house with their scam? Probably one of their central beliefs, this is from Wikipedia:

The "Hidden Truth" about the nature of the universe is taught to the most advanced Scientologists in a series of courses known as the Advanced Levels. These are the levels above "Clear", and their contents are held in strict confidence within Scientology. The most advanced of all are the eight Operating Thetan levels, for which the initiate needs to be thoroughly prepared. The highest level, OT VIII, is only disclosed at sea, on the Scientology cruise ship Freewinds. Since being entered into evidence in several court cases beginning in the 1980s, synopses and excerpts of these secret teachings have appeared in numerous publications.

In the OT levels, Hubbard describes a variety of traumas commonly experienced in past lives. He explains how to reverse the effects of such traumas by "running" various Scientology processes. Among these advanced teachings, one episode that is revealed to those who reach OT level III has been widely remarked upon in the press: the story of Xenu, the galactic tyrant who first kidnapped certain individuals who were deemed "excess population" and loaded these individuals into space planes for transport to the site of extermination, the planet of Teegeeack (Earth). These space planes were supposedly exact copies of Douglas DC-8s. He then stacked hundreds of billions of these frozen victims around Earth's volcanoes 75 million years ago before blowing them up with hydrogen bombs and brainwashing them with a "three-D, super colossal motion picture" for 36 days. The traumatized thetans subsequently clustered around human bodies, in effect acting as invisible spiritual parasites known as "body thetans" that can only be removed using advanced Scientology techniques. Xenu is allegedly imprisoned in a mountain by a force field powered by an eternal battery.

South Park showed a wonderful animated illustration of this with their "Trapped In The Closet" episode last night. Did you know that they also believe that phsychologists and psychiatric medicine are plots from the space alien Xenu? Also from Wikipedia:

In 1966, Hubbard declared war on psychiatry, telling Scientologists "We want at least one bad mark on every psychiatrist in England, a murder, an assault, or a rape or more than one." He committed the Church to eradicating psychiatry in 1969, announcing "Our war has been forced to become 'To take over absolutely the field of mental healing on this planet in all forms.'" Not coincidentally, the Church founded the Citizens Commission on Human Rights that same year as its primary vehicle for attacking psychiatry.

Around the same time, Hubbard decided psychiatrists were an ancient evil that had been a problem for billions of years. He cast them in the role of assisting Xenu's genocide of 75 million years ago. In a 1982 bulletin entitled "Pain and Sex", Hubbard declares that "pain and sex were the INVENTED TOOLS of degradation", having been devised eons ago by psychiatrists "who have been on the [time] track a long time and are the sole cause of decline in this universe." (Hubbard, HCO Bulletin of August 26, 1982)

Celebrity Scientologists, notably Tom Cruise, have been extremely vocal in attacking the use of psychiatric medication. Their position has attracted considerable criticism from psychiatrists, physicians, and mentally ill individuals who cite numerous scientific studies showing benefit from psychiatry. On top of that there is evidence Scientology adherents destroyed scientific data in a lengthy campaign to discredit research. Nevertheless, it is still being defended and promoted by Scientologists.

Ever one remembers the encounter between Tom Cruise and Brooke Shields, and how Tom got pwn3d!

L. Ron Hubbard was a greedy and manipulative asshat. He duped a lot of Hollywood nitwits into his cult, and it is a global phenomenom now. How far you advance in the cult is directly related to the size of your bank account. I'm going to be reading more on this cult for the fabulously rich and stupid, and watch to see if anything new develops. It will be interesting to see if Tre and Matt get sued, and I'm sure Isaac Hayes(a Scientologist) is probably done with the show. So long Chef.

Here are some good reading links I found, and that Wil "Smith" of MRR also showed me:

And here's a couple of links to a parody site that was threatened by the Scientologist with legal action. A lot of fun, and informative as well:
