Jumping To Conclusions

Two Babes and a Brain picked up on this disgusting tidbit yesterday. It is of a letter sent to Walter Reed hospital for Joshua Sparling. He is one of our troops who suffered a gunshot wound in Iraq. You can view it here. This pisses me off, as it should anyone that has any decency, but conclusions are being made too quickly on this. Here are some excerpts from Two Babes and a Blog:

During our visit to Walter Reed, we all piled into a room of a young soldier who had just come out of surgery. His parents were there to take care of him. His room was decorated with autographed photos...

~snip~

There was also a card from a child...a get well card...

..or so one would think.

It was actually a "I hope you die" card. Think I'm kidding? I'm not. We were all speechless. Now I gave my word to the Public Relations officer of Walter Reed that I wouldn't publish any pictures of the soldiers that I took. I'm not sure if that covers pictures of cards, but until I get clarification, I will only quote the card for you and tell you that the handwriting looked like it was from a child in the third to fourth grade.

Here's what it said....

Dear Soldier,

Have a great time in the war.

And have a great time dieing in the war.

From,

Miguel Gallier

P.S. Die

(there were bullet holes drawn around the word "Die")

This is absolutely sick and demented that someone would be sending this to a wounded soldier. If they thought they were being funny, they weren't. If they thought this would get the soldier to think that the Iraq War is wrong, it won't. All it does is show thate there may be a sick and twisted individual out there who hopes someone will die so it will prove his political point. But that is jumping to conclusions as well... Read more:

What parents condone this type of hatred? What teacher allowed this note to be sent to a soldier who was wounded serving this country? What school system allows these type of people to teach our children?

The letter looks like it is drawn by a child. I'm thinking it wasn't. This was more likely an adult thinking himself clever. On to the conclusion:

To my far left wing anti-war Code Pink, Mama Moonbat Sheehan worshipers...

If you want to protest the war....knock yourself out. If you want to march till the cows come home....by all means, have at it. But don't spew your hatred directly at the soldiers who are injured and sacrificed so that you have the liberty and freedom to protest. Stop using children to promote your agenda. Its shameful and disgusting and the rest of America won't stand for it.

The whole article here.

I understand how she is feeling, but THERE IS NO EVIDENCE THAT A LEFT-WINGER USED A CHILD TO SEND THIS LETTER. For that matter, there is no evidence that a left winger even sent this letter, much less a child. I do not doubt that this letter was sent. But let's look at a few things to think about before jumping the gun.

Not all extremists are anti-war left wingers. That should go without saying, but sometimes some people need reminding. Take Fred Phelps for instance. You can go to his nasty website to see how he and his followers think about our troops, or read one of his hateful leaflets here. The Westboro Baptist Church has been applauding the deaths of our soldiers, and are definitely not of the anti-war crowd. There are other groups to think about. How about the neo-nazis who are against this war becuase they think we are only there to serve Israeli interests? They are not part of the anti-war crowd either. To conclude that the anti-war movement is behind this, is jumping the gun without knowing all of the evidence. There's another possibilty.

Many remember the debacle of Dan Rather and his forged memos. Anyone can forge something to try to make an opponent look bad. The left was rightly denounced for jumping the gun on that story based on false evidence, and the right could be making the same mistake here as well. If this case is evidenced to be showing that this is the story, everyone is going to have insert foot in the mouth syndrome.

Whoever did this is truely lower than the trash buried beneath the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View. Before jumping to conclusions, we need to find out who sent it, and why. It could be that it was from an anti-war protester, but there is no solid evidence to prove that is the case. I really don't believe the vast majority of the anti-war crowd would do something like this, although there are no doubt, a few who would. But then, there are extremists everywhere in this country, of all walks of life. Let's find out who did it(if ever, but I'm pretty certain it was not a child.), and then go from there. If any one wishes to beat the culprit till he bleeds out of his toe nails, I didn't see a thing.
